Announcing the company’s EV plans, Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said,
While Tata Motors has not revealed any details related to its powertrain, the Tiago EV is likely to get the same combination of front-mounted electric motor and battery as the Tigor EV. Currently, the Tigor EV is powered by a front-mounted electric motor, which is capable of producing 75 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque, and the Tiago EV is expected to claim the same performance numbers. Apart from the motor, the Tiago EV might also share the 26 kWh lithium-ion battery pack from the Tigor EV.
This battery pack claims a maximum driving range of 306 km in the Tigor EV, and it is interesting to see how much range will this battery offer in the Tiago EV.
With the Tiago EV set to become its most affordable electric vehicle for India, Tata is eyeing to achieve 30 percent electric vehicle penetration by 2030. The Indian carmaker recently expanded its EV lineup with the Nexon EV Max with a more powerful motor and a bigger battery pack. It also introduced a new range-topping Prime variant for the regular Nexon EV, with some additional features from Nexon EV Max.
With the Tata Tiago EV, the brand will be able to target a wider customer spectrum. Currently, the most affordable EV in India is the Tata Tigor EV which gets a price tag of Rs 12.24 lakhs.
