Choreographer Jani Master suspended as Dancers' Union president following rape case allegations.

A case of sexual assault has been filed against Telugu dance choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, also known as Jani Master. The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce is supporting the survivor, who accused Jani of sexually assaulting her in 2019. The survivor, who was a minor and working as his assistant, said the assault happened during a movie shoot in Mumbai. She also claimed Jani threatened to fire her and block her job opportunities if she spoke up. The police registered the case on September 11, and it has now been transferred to a different police station for investigation.

On September 17, the sexual harassment panel of the film chamber, which includes producers and actors, announced that Jani has been temporarily suspended as president of the Telugu Film and TV Dancers and Dance Directors Association. This decision was made to ensure he doesn't influence or pressure the survivor. The panel will continue its investigation for 90 days before submitting a final report.

Jani has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sexual assault and criminal intimidation, but the police have yet to add charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In addition, Jani has been asked to step away from his activities with the Jana Sena Party, which he joined earlier this year. The panel is working closely with the police and will provide financial help to the survivor if needed. They are also looking into all aspects of the case, including any possible deals between the accused and the survivor.
